Free Dental Clinic Coming to Sioux CityFree Dental Clinic Coming to Sioux City An annual event that provides free dental care to hundreds of people was discussed at the Rotary Club of Sioux City meeting on Monday. Since 2008, Iowa Mission of Mercy has been traveling the state, offering two days of dental care from volunteers. Research indicates that over 40% of Americans do not visit their dentist yearly. This program aims to address this issue, reducing dental emergencies. Dr. Dick Hettinger, a dentist, stated that emergency departments experience a decrease in dental emergencies in the month following the clinic’s arrival. This is significant because hospital dental care is more expensive than clinic or private care. Dr. Hettinger outlined the clinic’s details to the Rotary Club members. The free clinic will be held at the Tyson Events Center on October 4 and 5. Volunteers are welcome to assist. Please follow the link in the article for more information.

According to experts, more than 40 percent of Americans admit that they do not visit their dentist annually. With this program, fewer people will not suffer from dental emergencies.
“A month or so after we get to a city, the emergency departments are going to see fewer dental emergencies,” said dentist Dr. Dick Hettinger. “That’s a big deal because it’s much more expensive to provide dental care in a hospital setting than it is in our clinic or even in a private clinic.”
Hettinger shared details about the clinic with Rotary Club members on Monday. The free clinic will be held at the Tyson Events Center on Oct. 4 and 5.
