ECREEE Launches Solarization Projects at Ghanaian HospitalsECREEE Launches Solarization Projects at Ghanaian Hospitals The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) has officially inaugurated solarization projects at three hospitals in Ghana, aiming to enhance healthcare delivery through uninterrupted power supply. The projects include a 61KWp system at Finney Hospital, a 21KWp system at Barnor Memorial Hospital, and a 30KWp system at Mother-Love Hospital. Developed in partnership with Tradeworks Limited, a local solar energy company, the projects received technical support and co-financing from ECREEE’s ECOWAS Special Intervention Fund (ESIF). The opening ceremony at Finney Hospital was attended by prominent figures, including Randy Sey, Director of Renewable Energy representing Ghana’s Energy Minister; Kofi Agyarko, Director of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency representing the Energy Commission of Ghana’s Executive Secretary; Jean Francis Sempore, Executive Director of ECREEE; and Randy Sey, Managing Director of Tradeworks Limited. Ghana’s Ministry of Energy emphasized the projects’ alignment with the government’s renewable energy adoption policy and encouraged healthcare facilities to benefit from solarization and the Net Metering policy. The Energy Commission of Ghana highlighted its collaboration with ECREEE in promoting sustainable energy in Ghana and the ECOWAS region. Tradeworks Limited expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and called for long-term financing to expand solarization projects. Finney Hospital’s Medical Director emphasized the benefits of reliable and cost-effective energy, reduced grid dependency, and lower carbon emissions. ECREEE’s Director, Mr. Sempore, emphasized the projects’ significance in providing sustainable energy for quality healthcare and improving access to energy for ECOWAS citizens. The solar systems ensure uninterrupted power supply, enabling medical facilities to function efficiently despite power outages.
The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) is proud to announce the opening of solarization projects in three hospitals in Ghana.
The solarization projects consist of a 61KWp system at Finney Hospital, a 21KWp solar system at Barnor Memorial Hospital and a 30KWp solar system at Mother-Love Hospital.
The projects were developed and implemented in partnership with Tradeworks Limited, a local solar energy company, with technical support and co-financing from ECREEE, through the ECOWAS Special Intervention Fund (ESIF).
The projects provide uninterrupted power supply to the beneficiary hospitals, thus contributing to the delivery of excellent health care in the communities where they operate.
The opening ceremony at Finney Hospital was attended by several eminent persons including the Director of Renewable Energy, Randy Sey, representing the Minister of Energy of Ghana; the Director of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency at the Energy Commission of Ghana, Kofi Agyarko, representing the Executive Secretary; the Executive Director of ECREEE, Jean Francis Sempore; the Medical Director of Finney Hospital, Dr. Allen Steele-Dadzie; and the Managing Director of Tradeworks Limited, Randy Sey.
In his speech, the Director of Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy stressed the importance of the project. He noted that the projects are in line with the policy of the Government of Ghana to promote the adoption and use of renewable energy and encourage all healthcare facilities accredited under the National Health Insurance Scheme to fully benefit from the advantages of solarization, including the Net Metering policy of the Government of Ghana.
The Director for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency of the Energy Commission of Ghana in his speech noted that the Energy Commission, as Ghana’s focal institution for ECREEE, works closely with ECREEE and the ECOWAS Commission to promote sustainable energy in Ghana and the ECOWAS region.
He expressed his delight at the collaboration, noting that the hospital solarization project will ensure that critical parts of the institutions are constantly supplied with electricity, thereby improving service delivery.
The Chief Executive Officer of Tradeworks Limited expressed his gratitude to the ECOWAS Commission, ECREEE, the Energy Commission of Ghana, the Ministry of Energy of Ghana and all the participating hospitals for making the installations possible.
He called on ECREEE to facilitate long-term favourable financing so that more hospitals and other end-users can access solar energy for their operations.
The Finney Hospital Medical Director noted that the solar installation will provide the hospitals with reliable and cost-effective energy while reducing the burden on the national grid and reducing its carbon footprint.
ECREEE Director, Mr. Francis Sempore, noted that the projects are a significant step towards providing sustainable energy and quality health care to the communities.
He further stated that the projects are part of ECOWAS’ efforts to further improve access to sustainable energy for ECOWAS citizens. This has led to the creation of a dedicated energy intervention fund implemented by ECREEE.
These projects represent an important step forward in improving the quality of healthcare in the region.
By providing uninterrupted power supply through these solar systems, the project ensures that medical facilities can function efficiently without the disruptions caused by power outages.
