Ontario Premier Doug Ford says his government will purchase five police helicopters instead of leasing them.

Ontario plans to invest $134 million in five police helicopters.

The cost will be about $100 million higher than what the province budgeted in March for leasing four helicopters.

Premier Doug Ford says the purchases were made at the request of police.

They are deployed in Ottawa, Toronto and by police in Durham, Halton and Peel regions.
