The incident began when VicPD officers witnessed the theft of a vehicle from a business on Summit Avenue. As the officers pursued the suspect, they lost sight of the vehicle. However, a member of the public reported witnessing the stolen car driving dangerously on Finlayson Street. Integrated Canine Services assisted in locating the vehicle, and officers attempted to stop it from fleeing again. However, the suspect crashed into a police car and fled the scene. At around 9:45 p.m., the suspect drove to Oak Street in Saanich, where two VicPD police cars deliberately rammed the stolen vehicle. The suspect exited the car and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by officers. He is now in police custody and scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, July 30th. One person sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. No officers were seriously injured during the incident.

VicPD officers narrowly escaped injury on Monday, July 28, when a male suspect drove a stolen vehicle into an oncoming vehicle on Douglas Street.

According to a press release, the vehicle was stolen from a business at 700 Summit Avenue and VicPD officers witnessed the theft.

After entering Douglas Street, they saw the car traveling north and officers lost sight of him. A member of the public saw him after witnessing dangerous driving in the 700 block of Finlayson Street.

Integrated Canine Services assisted in locating the car and officers attempted to prevent the car from fleeing again, but the driver crashed into a police car and left the area.

At 9:45 p.m., the vehicle drove to Oak Street in Saanich, where two VicPD police cars deliberately rammed the stolen car.

The suspect had gotten out of the car and tried to flee on foot, but was apprehended by officers. He is now in police custody and is due to appear in court on Tuesday, July 30.

No officers were seriously injured; one person was taken to hospital with a minor problem.
