Beaumont Buzz: Local Teen Breaks Ground for New Robotics LabBeaumont Buzz: Local Teen Breaks Ground for New Robotics Lab Beaumont, Texas – In a groundbreaking ceremony that drew city officials, educators, and community members, 16-year-old robotics prodigy Ethan James officially launched the construction of Beaumont’s first dedicated robotics laboratory. Ethan, a sophomore at West Brook High School, has been captivated by robotics since he was a young boy. He has won numerous awards for his innovative designs and programming skills, including first place at the regional FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) competition this past year. “Robotics has changed my life,” Ethan said. “It has taught me about STEM, problem-solving, and teamwork. I want to share that passion with others in our community.” The new robotics lab will provide a state-of-the-art facility for students interested in exploring the field. It will feature a dedicated build space, a workshop, and a computer lab equipped with advanced software and equipment. “This lab is an investment in our future,” said Mayor Becky Ames. “By fostering STEM education at a young age, we are creating a pipeline of skilled workers for our local industries and beyond.” Dr. Yvonne Woodard, superintendent of Beaumont Independent School District, expressed her gratitude for Ethan’s initiative and the community’s support. “Ethan is an outstanding example of the potential that lies within our students,” she said. “This lab will provide them with unparalleled opportunities to learn, grow, and excel in robotics and beyond.” The project is funded through a combination of private donations, grants, and support from local businesses. The lab is expected to be completed in the summer of 2024. “This is a dream come true,” Ethan said. “I can’t wait to see the impact this lab will have on Beaumont’s students and the future of our city.”
