Chicago Skyscraper Fire Contained, Evacuations LiftedChicago Skyscraper Fire Contained, Evacuations Lifted Chicago firefighters have successfully contained a massive blaze that erupted in a high-rise apartment building in the city’s River North neighborhood. All residents have been evacuated, and no fatalities or serious injuries have been reported. The fire broke out shortly after midnight on the 30th floor of the 50-story building on State Street. Flames quickly spread to multiple floors, fueled by strong winds. Dozens of fire engines and hundreds of firefighters responded to the scene. After several hours of intense firefighting, crews managed to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters used aerial ladders to reach the upper floors and helicopters to drop water from above. Residents of the building were evacuated to nearby shelters. The fire caused extensive damage to the building, including shattered windows and charred walls. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Fire officials believe it started on a balcony on the 30th floor, but have not determined what ignited it. Mayor Lori Lightfoot praised the work of the firefighters for containing the fire and preventing any loss of life. She also thanked the residents for evacuating quickly and safely. “This was a difficult fire, but our firefighters acted with courage and professionalism,” said Lightfoot. “We are grateful that everyone made it out safely.” Evacuations have been lifted, but residents will not be allowed back into the building until it is deemed safe. Fire inspectors are currently assessing the damage and determining if the building can be repaired.
