Naples Evacuates Low-Lying Areas as Tropical Storm ApproachesNaples Evacuates Low-Lying Areas as Tropical Storm Approaches As Tropical Storm Lisa gains strength and barrels towards the Gulf Coast, the city of Naples, Florida, has ordered mandatory evacuations for low-lying areas. The storm is expected to bring heavy rain, storm surge, and potential flooding to the region. Mayor Bill Barnett issued the evacuation order on Wednesday, urging residents in Zone A to leave their homes immediately. Zone A includes areas west of Naples Bay and south of Venetian Bay, as well as other vulnerable coastal areas. “We are taking this storm very seriously,” Barnett said. “We want to ensure the safety of our residents and give them ample time to prepare and evacuate.” Evacuation centers have been set up at Pelican Marsh Recreation Center and Gulf Coast High School. Residents are advised to bring essential supplies, such as food, water, medication, and important documents. The National Hurricane Center has classified Lisa as a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. The storm is expected to make landfall along the Florida Panhandle on Thursday evening or Friday morning. Naples officials are monitoring the storm’s progress closely and urging residents to stay informed. The city has also activated its emergency response plan and is coordinating with local and state authorities. “We are working around the clock to prepare for this storm,” said Fire Chief Pete DiMaria. “We have already begun distributing sandbags to help residents protect their homes.” Residents who do not evacuate are advised to secure their homes, stay indoors, and be prepared for power outages and flooding. The city has also issued a boil water notice for the affected areas. As the storm approaches, residents are encouraged to follow official updates from the city of Naples and the National Hurricane Center.
