Boise Buzz: Lawmaker Proposes Tax Break for Local Bob Ross LookalikesBoise Buzz: Lawmaker Proposes Tax Break for Local Bob Ross Lookalikes In a whimsical twist, a Boise lawmaker has introduced a bill that would grant tax breaks to residents who bear a striking resemblance to the late beloved artist, Bob Ross. Representative Tim Day (R-Burns) believes that the state should capitalize on the popularity of Ross, the iconic painter known for his soothing voice and calming demeanor, in the same way that it does with other tourism-related industries. “Bob Ross was a true Idahoan,” said Day. “He painted some of our state’s most beautiful landscapes, and his art has brought joy to countless people around the world. I think it’s time we recognize his legacy and give our local Bob Ross doppelgangers the support they deserve.” Under the proposed bill, any resident of Idaho who can demonstrate a “reasonable likeness” to Ross would be eligible for a tax break of up to $500 per year. To qualify, individuals must submit a photograph of themselves alongside an official photo of the artist, as well as two written testimonials from people who can attest to their resemblance. Day said he has already received several inquiries from potential beneficiaries, including a retired art teacher who has been dubbed “Bob Ross Jr.” and a local businessman who uses his Bob Ross impression in his daily interactions. “I’m not sure if I’m a perfect match for Bob,” said the businessman, who asked to remain anonymous. “But I’ve been told that I have his kind eyes and his soothing voice. I’ve even been asked to pose for photos with tourists in the airport.” Critics of the bill, however, argue that it is an unnecessary waste of taxpayer money and that it could lead to frivolous claims from people who barely resemble Ross. “I understand the appeal of Bob Ross,” said Representative Sarah Thomas (D-Boise). “But I don’t think it’s the state’s responsibility to subsidize people who look like him. We have more pressing issues to address, like education and healthcare.” Despite the opposition, Day remains optimistic that his bill will pass. He believes that the tax break would not only benefit Bob Ross lookalikes but would also boost the state’s tourism industry. “People from all over the world love Bob Ross,” said Day. “If we can attract even a fraction of those fans to Idaho, it would be a huge economic boon for our state.”
