According to police, the 36-year-old victim was working as a rideshare driver when he picked up a fare in the 4800 block of West Wilcox Street at approximately 8:40 p.m. As the driver began to drive the fare to their destination, the passenger allegedly pulled out a gun and demanded that the driver turn over his money and belongings. The driver complied, but the passenger then allegedly demanded the driver’s car keys. When the driver refused, the passenger allegedly fired multiple shots, striking the driver in the leg. The driver was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. After the shooting, the passenger allegedly stole the driver’s car and fled the scene. The stolen vehicle is a black 2008 Toyota Camry with Illinois license plate number V442555. Police are investigating the incident and are searching for the suspect, who is described as a male wearing a black mask and a black hoodie. This incident is the latest in a series of violent crimes against rideshare drivers in Chicago in recent months. In December, a rideshare driver was carjacked and fatally shot in the South Side neighborhood of Englewood.
