Amherst Town Council Approves New Dog Park, Expanding Recreation for Canine CompanionsAmherst Town Council Approves New Dog Park, Expanding Recreation for Canine Companions Amherst, MA – The Amherst Town Council has unanimously approved the construction of a new dog park, providing a dedicated space for canine recreation and socialization. The park will be located beside the Amherst Middle School on East Hadley Road, offering a convenient location for residents and their furry friends. The dog park will feature separate areas for large and small dogs, with each section measuring approximately one acre in size. The park will be fully fenced and landscaped, providing a safe and comfortable environment for dogs to run, play, and interact with others. “We are thrilled to bring this much-needed amenity to our community,” said Town Manager Paul Bockelman. “The dog park will not only provide a great space for dogs to exercise and socialize, but it will also enhance the quality of life for pet owners.” The new dog park is the result of years of advocacy by local residents and dog owners. The Dog Park Committee, formed in 2018, worked tirelessly to identify a suitable location, secure funding, and develop a design that meets the needs of the community. “This is a huge victory for Amherst dog owners,” said Sarah Peterson, a member of the Dog Park Committee. “We have a lot of dogs in our community, and they deserve to have a safe and dedicated place to play.” Construction on the dog park is expected to begin this spring and be completed by fall 2023. The project is funded through a combination of municipal funds and private donations. The Amherst Dog Park will be a welcome addition to the town’s recreational facilities, providing a much-needed space for dogs to socialize, exercise, and enjoy the outdoors.
