On January 17, 2023, RNC officers conducted a traffic stop on Water Street in St. John’s. The male driver was found to have outstanding fines exceeding $20,000. As per the Highway Traffic Act, the RNC has the authority to seize the vehicle of a driver who owes more than $5,000 in fines and does not have a payment plan in place. The driver’s vehicle was impounded and the individual was issued a provincial summons for failure to pay provincial fines. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. “We understand that life circumstances can change and individuals may face financial difficulties,” said RNC Constable James Cadigan. “However, it’s important for drivers to be aware of their outstanding fines and take steps to address them. Our goal is not to punish individuals but to encourage compliance with traffic laws and ensure road safety.” The RNC encourages drivers to check their outstanding fines online through Service NL’s website: https://www.servicenl.gov.nl.ca/drivers. Payment plans can be arranged by contacting the Provincial Fines Administration Office at 1-800-563-6173.Man Arrested for Traffic Violations in St. John’sMan Arrested for Traffic Violations in St. John’s A 63-year-old man was arrested following a traffic stop in St. John’s.
