According to the Asheville Police Department, the incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. when a semi-trailer truck overturned and burst into flames. The truck was reportedly carrying a load of hazardous materials, including flammable chemicals. Witnesses described hearing a loud explosion and seeing the truck engulfed in orange flames. Black smoke billowed into the night sky, causing nearby residents to evacuate their homes. “It was like something out of a movie,” said one eyewitness. “The flames were so intense, and the smoke was so thick.” Firefighters and hazardous materials crews rushed to the scene and battled the blaze for several hours. The fire caused significant damage to multiple vehicles and the surrounding vegetation. Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities or serious injuries. However, the truck driver and his passenger were both taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The interstate was shut down for several hours while emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
