As one of the largest and most intelligent cephalopods, Luna’s presence will bring an extraordinary dimension to the aquarium’s collection. Luna, a female, hails from the cold waters of the Pacific Northwest. With an arm span of over 15 feet, she is one of the largest octopuses currently on exhibit in the United States. Her deep red-brown coloration and mesmerizing patterns make her a visual spectacle for visitors. Giant Pacific Octopuses are renowned for their impressive cognitive abilities. They have the largest brains among invertebrates and can solve complex puzzles and learn from their experiences. Luna’s keepers have already observed her curious and playful nature, as she explores her new environment with grace and fluidity. As an apex predator, Luna feeds primarily on crabs, shrimp, and fish. Visitors will have the opportunity to witness her hunting skills and marvel at her ability to change color and texture to blend seamlessly with her surroundings. The aquarium’s Amazon exhibit has been meticulously transformed into Luna’s new abode. The enclosure mimics the natural habitats of Giant Pacific Octopuses, featuring a rocky den, kelp forests, and a variety of prey species.
