Protestors Injured at ‘Hands Off Our Hotels’ Demonstration At a recent ‘Hands Off Our Hotels’ demonstration, several protestors sustained injuries during a police confrontation. Four protestors received first aid from the ambulance service after being sprayed with pepper spray by police. The incident occurred when protestors attempted to advance beyond the agreed-upon end point of the demonstration. According to reports, some protestors threw bags of water at police officers who were forcibly preventing the crowd from moving forward. In response, the officers used pepper spray, resulting in injuries to several individuals. Tear gas was also deployed to disperse the growing crowd. Bernard Mornah, former National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), criticized the police for their conduct. He questioned the use of tear gas and accused the Ghana Police Service of unprofessionalism. As the situation escalated, calm was eventually restored when protestor Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa submitted a petition to a Jubilee House representative under heavy security. The petition aimed to persuade the government to halt the sale of four hotels to the Rock City Hotel, owned by Minister of Food and Agriculture Bryan Acheampong. The hotels in question include the Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Elmina Beach Resort, and Busua Beach Resort. Ablakwa alleged that the sale of state assets to government officials constitutes an abuse of power that should not be tolerated. Prior to the protest, the Ghana Police Service had assured the public of their readiness to provide security and maintain order. The protest received support from various organizations and groups, all united in their opposition to the proposed sale.Protesters were injured when police used pepper spray and tear gas at the ‘Hand Off Our Hotels’ demonstration. The demonstration was organized by a group of homeless advocates who are demanding that the city provide more affordable housing. The protesters gathered in front of City Hall and marched to the nearby Hilton Hotel, where they were met by a line of police officers. The police ordered the protesters to disperse, but they refused. The police then used pepper spray and tear gas to disperse the crowd. Several protesters were injured, and one was taken to the hospital. The city has said that it is committed to providing affordable housing, but that it needs to find a way to do so that does not harm businesses or residents. The protesters say that the city is not doing enough to help the homeless, and that they will continue to protest until the city takes action.
