Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission Hosts Free Juneteenth Food Giveaway In celebration of Juneteenth, the Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission will host a free food giveaway on Saturday, June 18, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the City of Little Rock’s Southwest Community Center (6401 Baseline Road). The giveaway is part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to address food insecurity in the Little Rock community. Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, is a particularly significant time to prioritize food equity. Attendees will be able to receive a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, canned goods, and other non-perishable items. Distribution will be on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. “Juneteenth is a time to reflect on the struggles and triumphs of our nation’s history,” said Commission Chairwoman Cheryl Wright. “Providing free food to those in need is a tangible way to honor the legacy of Dr. King and to promote the values of equality and justice.” The event is open to all members of the community.
