A concerned resident had reported a cat trapped high in a tree, unable to climb down. Upon arriving at the scene, officers encountered a large, furry feline perched precariously on a branch approximately 30 feet above the ground. The cat, a domestic shorthair named Mittens, had apparently climbed the tree earlier in the day but had become frightened and unable to descend. With no apparent way to reach the stranded feline, the officers turned to their creative instincts. Using a nearby ladder and a blanket, they devised a makeshift rescue plan. One officer carefully climbed the ladder while the other held the blanket taut below. After several attempts, the officer was able to carefully coax Mittens onto the blanket. With a collective sigh of relief, the cat was safely lowered to the ground. “It’s not every day we get called out to rescue a cat from a tree,” said Sergeant Mark Johnson. “But we’re always happy to help, especially when it involves saving a furry friend.” Mittens, who appeared none the worse for wear, was reunited with her grateful owner. The incident served as a reminder that even in seemingly outlandish situations, the Reno Police Department is always ready to serve and protect the community, both big and small.
