Newport Woman Arrested for Assaulting Nurse NEWPORT, R.I. (NECN) – A Newport woman has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a nurse at Newport Hospital. Police say 42-year-old Cathleen Benway was arrested on Saturday night after she allegedly punched a nurse in the face several times. The nurse was not seriously injured. Benway is charged with felony assault and was arraigned on Monday. She is being held at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston. It is unclear what led to the alleged assault.On Wednesday, Newport police arrested and charged Kiana M. Badan, 27, after she allegedly assaulted a nurse at North Country Hospital. Witnesses reported that Badan also harassed other patients and refused to leave the hospital after declining treatment. The initial investigation revealed that Badan had returned to the hospital lobby after being released from the emergency room.

According to police, 30-year-old Jennifer Smith was intoxicated when she arrived at the hospital on Friday night. She was being treated for minor injuries when she allegedly became disruptive and assaulted a nurse. The nurse was not seriously injured. Smith was arrested for assault and battery. She was released on $1,000 personal recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Hospital officials say they are reviewing their security protocols in light of the incident.
