Official Driver for Prime Minister Robert Menzies Mr. Stafford served as Prime Minister Robert Menzies’ official driver for many years, fostering a lasting friendship between the two men and their families. He also worked as a parliamentary driver and ministerial clerk at Parliament House, serving numerous Australian Prime Ministers before retiring in 1972. Member of the Order of the British Empire Alf Stafford was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire for his dedicated service to several Prime Ministers of Australia. Originally from New South Wales, he moved to Canberra in the 1930s and became a prominent member of the Kingston community. Sporting Achievements Mr. Stafford was a keen sportsman, captaining the Kingston district cricket club team and the Federal Capital Territory Cricket Association representative team.
