Man rescued after falling into river in Newbury

A 54-year-old man was rescued Sunday evening after he fell into the Parker River from a boat at the Riverfront Marina in Newbury, according to a statement from the Newbury Fire and Police Departments.

The release states that around 6:10 p.m., police received a report of a man in the water near the marina at 292 High Road.

Upon arrival, two officers used several flotation devices to keep the man stable until additional rescuers arrived, officials said. The man’s wife had previously tried to save him but was unsuccessful and so she called 911.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport for evaluation.

Newbury Police are investigating the incident.
