New York Freedom Parade Scheduled: Get details on the festivities in Manhattan, Brooklyn

After almost 30 years, Liberty brought home the championship, and all of New York will be celebrating – including a ticker tape parade.

As of yet, the city and Liberty have not announced a time or location, but in a message on Channel X, Liberty said ceremonies will take place in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Both the city and Liberty promised more updates would come Monday.

Liberty encouraged fans to sign up for online alerts to receive information as soon as it becomes available. The city asked residents to text “LIBERTY” to 917-909-2288 to do the same.

On Monday evening, several municipal buildings across the city, including City Hall and Brooklyn Borough Hall, will be lit in seafoam green.

The New York WNBA team was victorious on Sunday evening at the Barclays Center after a thrilling game against the Minnesota Lynx, with a final score of 67-62 in overtime.

It was a spectacular end to a season that generated a lot of local buzz around the team, with stars including Fran Lebowitz, Jason Sudeikis, Steph Curry, Jordan Chiles, Common, Chloe Fineman, Amy Poehler and others on the pitch. The team’s performance also improved game attendance, making it the second most watched team in the league this season, according to WNBA data. Last year they were in fifth place.

The Liberty have been approaching this point since Joseph Tsai and Clara Wu Tsai purchased the team from Knicks owner James Dolan in 2019. The family has made major investments in the team, including moving it to the Barclays Center from an arena in Westchester.

In 2023, they signed Jonquel Jones, Courtney Vandersloot and Breanna Stewart – three WNBA stars who helped them reach the WNBA Finals last year, where they lost to the Las Vegas Aces.
