Woman assisting with police investigations after 3-year-old boy found standing on HDB shelf

SINGAPORE – A 25-year-old woman is assisting with a police investigation after a small child was seen standing on the third floor windowsill of an HDB block in Canberra Road before being rescued by a passerby.

A video of the event that took place on October 20 was posted on social media. The recording shows a boy dressed in pajamas, staring blankly ahead, standing on the windowsill outside the apartment window.

Some concerned onlookers on the ground floor hold an open blanket to catch the boy if he falls.

A man is seen placing his hands on the wall to steady himself as he slowly walks towards the boy on the ledge. She picks up the toddler and puts him back into the apartment through the open window.

A witness who posted about the incident on Facebook said several residents tried to knock on the door of the boy’s house, but no one answered.

However, the man who rescued the child later discovered that an adult was in the apartment.

In response to queries from The Straits Times, police and the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) said they were alerted to the incident at Block 350C Canberra Road at around 11.50am.

According to police, a three-year-old boy was seen standing on the windowsill outside the window and was saved by a passer-by before officers arrived.

Police said a 25-year-old woman is assisting with a neglect investigation.

According to SCDF, the toddler was taken to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

SCDF said it would contact citizens who helped during the incident and commend them for their public attitude.
