Farewell to the star – Thiem’s performance was also worthy of a great one

You can mourn this, but you can also simply applaud the great successes that Thiem achieved anyway. A Grand Slam title, three finals, a Masters title, a total of 17 ATP trophies in world sports. Along with Andy Murray, he is one of only two players to have won at least five matches against each of the “Big Three”. Thiem is undoubtedly one of the best athletes Austria has ever had. Internationally, this was fully appreciated, although at times it seemed that many in this country did not fully understand the value of these achievements.

Not only have they been rightly appreciated all over the world. His spectacular playing style with a powerful forehand and a beautiful one-handed rocket backhand earned him as many admirers as his appearance. Although Dominic often scolded himself and hacked at the odd racket, he was otherwise an almost consummate athlete. Always humble in his successes, respectful in his failures and polite in his dealings with others. This was probably also thanks to his long-time coach, Günter Bresnik.
