Innovative Technologies Empower Youths in Ogun StateInnovative Technologies Empower Youths in Ogun State The National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) and the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), in collaboration with the Government of the Netherlands, have concluded a ten-day intensive training program for over 300 youths in Owode/Yewa area of Ogun State. The training, which targeted youth aged 18 to 35, focused on equipping them with essential entrepreneurial skills and promoting their participation in agriculture through innovative, climate-smart technologies. Professor Abdullahi Mustapha, Director General/CEO of NBRDA, commended the partners and enablers for their unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation of agricultural entrepreneurs. He stressed the importance of the initiative in creating employment, increasing productivity, promoting innovation, and boosting overall economic growth. The program included a combination of theoretical and practical sessions that covered various aspects of innovative technologies for sustainable food solutions, including fish farming techniques, catfish growth production, fish feed formulation, cassava cultivation, and business and marketing strategies. Experts from IITA, the Base of Pyramid Innovation Centre, Bopinc Netherlands, and YSJ LTD, an agricultural food processing company in Ibadan, shared their knowledge and insights with the participants. Each participant received valuable training manuals to support their ongoing learning and development. The training received positive feedback from the attendees, who expressed their gratitude and commitment to using their acquired skills to create employment, increase food security, and contribute to the country’s economy. This initiative marks the first phase of a larger project of IITA’s Youth in Agribusiness (YAS) project, which aims to empower youth, tackle unemployment, and boost agricultural productivity for economic growth and poverty alleviation.

He emphasized the importance of the initiative in creating employment, increasing productivity, promoting innovation and boosting overall economic development.

Professor Mustapha, represented by Dr. Henry Oshagbemi, Director of NBRDA’s Bioresources Development Center in Owode, urged the participants to utilize the skills acquired during the training into entrepreneurial ventures that contribute to community growth and national economic development.
