The court’s order stemmed from allegations of Thube’s alleged inaction and inadequate investigation in the case. Thube had been in charge of the SIT for approximately nine months, filing a charge sheet on June 20. However, Special Judge Dipak Thakuria identified significant omissions in the indictment and expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation’s progress. Consequently, the judge ordered further investigation and Thube’s dismissal, directing the appointment of a DSP-level officer to oversee the probe. In compliance with the court’s directive, DSP Upen Kalita has now assumed responsibility for the investigation and will replace Prateek Thube. The team is expected to continue the investigation and pursue further leads in the ongoing cash-for-job scandal.

Guwahati: On Wednesday, Assam Police DSP Upen Kalita was assigned to lead the investigation into the cash-for-job scam of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).

This decision followed a special court’s directive to dismiss Prateek Thube, the previous officer-in-charge of the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The court’s order came in response to allegations of Thube’s inaction and inadequate investigation into the case.

Prateek Thube, who had headed the SIT for almost nine months, filed a complaint on June 20.

However, Special Judge Dipak Thakuria noted significant omissions in the indictment and expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation.

Consequently, the judge ordered further investigation and ordered Thube’s removal, directing that a DSP-level officer take over the investigation.

In accordance with the court’s directive, DSP Upen Kalita has now been appointed to continue the investigation, replacing Prateek Thube.
