When asked about his riding in the middle stages and the reason why FASTPASS rode wide and without cover in the 800 meters, MF Poon stated that his horse did not ride well throughout the event.
He said that while behind GO GO GO he put pressure on his mount near the 850 meters to encourage it to travel and when he pressured FASTPASS with the whip it shifted outwards allowing LEATHER MASTER to improve to his inside.
He added that FASTPASS was obliged to race wide and without cover from the 800 metres but never responded to his riding and gave ground on the home straight.
Trainer CH Yip confirmed the intention was to maintain a convenient position with cover, but agreed with Jockey Poon that FASTPASS had come under pressure in the middle stages, leading to FASTPASS advancing near the 800m mark.
A veterinary inspection immediately after the race revealed no significant findings.
