Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew, fulfilling his pledge to provide updates on construction projects in the country, has shared images of the NHC homes under development. The initiative aims to provide climate-friendly housing, enriching the lives of citizens through homeownership. The government has committed to delivering 2,400 energy-efficient, modern climate-smart homes over a five-year period. The first phase of the project commenced in March 2024 with the distribution of two homes to residents of Conaree. These homes will feature sustainable features such as solar power and water storage tanks, enhancing their environmental friendliness. The project also incorporates the assessment of applications and reconfigured architectural designs with varying bedroom options. The goal of this housing scheme is to instill confidence in the working class and elevate the living standards of the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis: The climate smart homes are one of the important projects being implemented in St. Kitts and Nevis that aim to provide affordable housing to the citizens of the island. Currently, there are about 20 homes with construction already underway, and more will begin in the coming week.
Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrance Drew, continues to keep his promise of giving a glimpse of the construction projects taking place in St. Kitts and Nevis. While giving the glimpse of the project, he noted: “As promised, I continue to post construction projects that are currently taking place. Today I am posting NHC homes under construction.”
This crucial project is a joint effort between National Housing Corporation and the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis. Under this program, the government aims to provide affordable climate-friendly housing to enrich its citizens through home ownership.
The project was launched with the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to deliver a total of 2,400 modern and energy-efficient climate-smart homes to families over a five-year period. The first phase of the project launched on the island in March 2024, when two houses were distributed to Conaree residents.
The homes were handed over to individuals including Shamarah Huggins of Conaree and Belinda Buchanan of Taylor’s. During the handover ceremony, Prime Minister Drew reiterated his commitment to advancing sustainable living by building smart homes.
The process began with the assessment of applications and reconfiguration of architectural designs with 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms. The main objective behind this new housing scheme was to restore confidence in the minds of the working class and improve the living standards of the people of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
These climate-conscious homes will also be equipped with modern facilities and amenities including solar power and water storage tanks never seen before in the affordable homes of the National Housing Corporation.
