Harper scored after the Red Bulls moved the ball forward quickly after forcing DC forward Jacob Murrell to lose possession. Harper was wide open in the middle of the box and converted Kyle Duncan’s pass with a right-footed shot past United goalkeeper Tyler Miller’s leaping try.
After Harper had levelled the match, the Red Bulls had a golden opportunity to secure the win, but Emil Forsberg missed a free kick in the 10th minute of injury time.
Elias Manoel scored on a penalty in the 24th as New York (9-4-8, 35 points) erased a pair of one-goal deficits on Lewis Morgan’s return from participating in the European Championship with Scotland. Morgan came into the match as a substitute at the start of the second half.
