The victims, identified as Rumpa Bibi (30) and her younger son Ayan Sheikh (4), were found charred beyond recognition inside their home on Friday morning. The surviving members of the family, husband Sheikh Tuta (40) and eldest son Sheikh Raj, were devastated by the tragedy. Raj recounted the harrowing events, stating that he had been sleeping in another room when he was awakened by his mother’s screams. Upon investigating, Raj discovered that the windows in his parents’ room had been open, and there was a pungent smell of kerosene in the air. He believes that unknown perpetrators poured kerosene into the room through the open window and set it ablaze. Neighbors rushed to the family’s aid and managed to pull the victims out of the burning building. They were taken to the local hospital in Bolpur and later transferred to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, but the minor son and his mother succumbed to their injuries shortly after. According to police, the father, Sheikh Tuta, is currently receiving medical attention, but his condition remains critical. The entire village is in shock and disbelief over the senseless tragedy. Investigators have launched an inquiry to determine the motive behind the incident and to identify the perpetrators. They are examining personal rivalries as a potential factor but haven’t ruled out other possibilities. This horrific crime has shattered the lives of a family and cast a pall over the community. The authorities have expressed their condolences to the bereaved family and vowed to bring the culprits to justice.

COLKATA: A woman and her four-year-old son were burnt alive by unknown persons in Notungeet village in Birbhum district of West Bengal on Friday.

The victims have been identified as Rumpa Bibi (30) and her younger son Ayan Sheikh (4). The woman’s husband, Sheikh Tuta (40), was admitted to a local hospital with serious burns.

The surviving member of the family and the couple’s eldest son, Sheikh Raj, who was sleeping in another room when the incident occurred, told media that he woke up early on Friday morning to his mother’s screams.

According to him, the windows on the roadside were open in the room where his parents and younger brother were sleeping. “They were caught in a fire and there was a strong smell of kerosene coming from the room. It seemed that some thugs from outside had poured kerosene into the room through the open window and then started the fire,” he said.

Locals rushed to the spot and somehow managed to get the couple and their minor son out of the room and rushed them to the local hospital in Bolpur, and then to Burdwan Medical College & Hospital.

The minor son died within minutes of being taken to the hospital, and his mother followed shortly after. The father is now receiving treatment, although his condition is extremely critical.

Meanwhile, the entire village was tense and panicked over the terrible incident. The police have launched an investigation into the matter to find out if there was any personal rivalry involved in the accident.
