As stated by Lieutenant General Andrei Semenov, commander of the Air and Missile Defense Forces, the air defense systems have successfully eliminated over 550 aircraft, 180 helicopters, and an impressive 27,000 UAVs. Semenov highlighted the efficiency of short-range air defense systems in destroying nearly a third of Ukraine’s manned aircraft. These systems, such as the Strela-10, have effectively targeted enemy drones and low-flying aircraft, providing crucial support to Russian forces on the front lines. The general emphasized their ability to neutralize reconnaissance and attack UAVs, as well as army aviation assets operated by Ukrainian forces.
Moscow: Russia’s Air Defense Forces and air defense assets have destroyed more than 42,000 air targets since the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, including more than 550 aircraft and 27,000 drones, Lieutenant General Andrei Semenov, commander of the Air and Missile Defense Forces and deputy supreme commander of the Russian Aerospace Forces, told journalists.
“In total, more than 42,000 air targets were destroyed by the Air Defense Forces during the special military operation. This includes more than 550 aircraft, more than 180 helicopters and more than 27,000 UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles),” Semenov said.
The commander added that about a third of Ukraine’s manned aircraft have been destroyed by short-range air defense systems from the front ranks.
“Short-range missile air defense systems (Strela-10), which are located in the forward echelons of our troops, have also proven their effectiveness by destroying dozens of enemy reconnaissance and attack UAVs daily, as well as the attack and army aviation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, operating at low and extremely low altitudes. In total, these systems have destroyed a third of the manned aviation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” the general said.
