Maguire began with a solid 66 in the opening round, followed by consistent rounds of 72 and 73 to end the 54-hole tournament at 8 under par, securing the individual title. Maria Hernandez came close at 7 under, while Alison Lee, Lauren Walsh, and Georgia Hall tied for third at 6 under. Walsh, an Irish-born golfer who attended Wake Forest, put up a valiant effort with a 65, giving her a significant lead. Hernandez, however, birdied the par-5 18th hole to snatch the lead with a score of 7 under. Despite being 6 under par, Maguire displayed exceptional skill by hitting her hybrid ball onto the lip of the hole just left of the 18th green. The ball rolled onto the green, giving her the opportunity to make a putt and secure the victory. Under immense pressure, Maguire sank the putt, defeating Hernandez and claiming her maiden LET victory. Additionally, she has two LPGA victories under her belt, with her most recent triumph being at the Meijer LPGA Classic in 2023. The story was initially reported by GolfWeek.

Leona Maguire started the Ladies European Tour’s Aramco Team Series London event strongly this week and needed a strong finish to secure victory at the Centurion Club.

Maguire shot an opening-round 66 and then cruised home with rounds of 72 on Thursday and 73 on Friday to claim the individual title at the event, finishing the 54-hole tournament at 8 under. Maria Hernandez was a stroke behind Maguire and the trio of Alison Lee, Lauren Walsh and Georgia Hall finished in a tie for third at 6 under.

But this was no ordinary finish.

Walsh, who is originally from Ireland but attended Wake Forest, shot a 65 to take a long lead. Then Hernandez birdied the par-5 18th hole to take the lead at 7 under.

At 6 under par, Maguire made the shot of the tournament by hitting her hybrid ball onto the lip of the hole just to the left, watching it roll onto the green and giving her a chance to make a putt and seal the victory.

With the pressure on, Maguire made the putt to beat Hernandez, the victory marking her first on the LET, joining a pair of victories on the LPGA. Her last victory came more than a year ago at the 2023 Meijer LPGA Classic.
