The vehicle overturned on a left curve, colliding with a utility pole, an embankment, and a tree. Fernandez Rivera became trapped within the wreckage and required extrication. He was airlifted by a Life Lion helicopter to Hershey Medical Center with serious injuries. According to the Pennsylvania State Police in Schuylkill Haven, Fernandez Rivera will face charges of reckless driving in connection with the crash.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police in Schuylkill Haven, the crash happened around 9:40 a.m. on Gold Mine Road, south of Tower City.
According to police, Rene Fernandez Rivera, 46, of New Brunswick, NJ was driving a Volvo tractor-trailer at a high rate of speed northbound on Gold Mine Road when he lost control on a left curve, overturned and struck a utility pole, an embankment and a tree.
Fernandez Rivera was severely trapped in the vehicle. After being extricated from the vehicle, he was transported to a Life Lion helicopter and flown to Hershey Medical Center with serious injuries.
State police say Fernandez Rivera will be charged with reckless driving as a result of the crash.
