As Showalter walked on the sidewalk on Center Street, an 85-year-old driver, Sandra Brown, pulled out of a driveway in her car. Unfortunately, Brown’s vehicle struck Showalter. The impact also caused Brown’s car to collide with an eastbound truck driven by 53-year-old James McGinnis. Tragically, Showalter was pronounced dead at the scene. Two children, a 2-year-old and a 7-year-old, were with her at the time of the crash. The 2-year-old sustained minor injuries, while the 7-year-old escaped unharmed. Brown and a passenger in her vehicle were transported to Marion General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. McGinnis was not injured. The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Marion Post is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. The cause of the accident remains under investigation. This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for all drivers to be vigilant when operating vehicles. A pedestrian was killed late Monday morning in Marion after being hit by a vehicle.
According to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Marion Post, 72-year-old Linda Showalter of Belleville was walking on the sidewalk when a car driven by 85-year-old Sandra Brown of Marion pulled out of a driveway onto Center Street, hitting her.
Showalter and Brown’s car was then struck by an eastbound truck driven by 53-year-old James McGinnis of Marion.
Showalter was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 2-year-old and a 7-year-old were with Showalter at the time of the crash. The 2-year-old suffered minor injuries and the 7-year-old was not injured.
Brown and a passenger in her vehicle were taken to Marion General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
McGinnis was not injured.
The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
