The Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sitting in Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos State has sentenced a 34-year-old businessman, Oluwafemi Asekeji, to life imprisonment for raping his 12-year-old daughter.
Justice Abiola Soladoye, in a judgment delivered on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, ruled that the Public Prosecution has proven the charge of indecency against Asekeji.
According to Judge Soladoye, the convict’s act of having illegal sexual intercourse with his biological child was contrary to natural law.
She said it was a case of incest, which should never happen.
The judge found that the convict’s father, who is 75 years old, testified against him that he had desecrated his granddaughter by having illegal sexual intercourse with her.
Judge Soladoye said: “The victim told the court in her testimony that she was 14 years old but that her father had violated her when she was 12 years old.
“She testified that on June 11, 2020, she was at home with her father, who was drunk, and that he ordered her to come into the room and lie down on the bed.
“She told the court that her father had asked her to take off her clothes and then had sex with her.

“She said, and I quote, ‘he lay on top of me and put his penis in my vagina, then he videotaped me and threatened to show the video to people if I told anyone what happened.’”
Judge Soladoye noted that the survivor testified that her father had ordered her to drink salt water after he had desecrated her.
The judge said the girl told the court not to tell anyone because her father had threatened to kill her if she told anyone that he had sexually abused her before the last incident on June 11, 2020.
The judge added that the medical report showed that the survivor had been raped as the report showed that the hymen had been broken.
The mother of the convict, a small trader, stated in her statement to the court that when she returned from the market, she saw blood on her granddaughter’s trousers and then asked her what had happened to her.
She said her granddaughter told her she had a stomach ache and her father gave her something to drink and then told her what had happened.
The survivor’s grandmother said a report was made to Meiran police station, which led to the businessman’s arrest.
Judge Soladoye added: “Apart from Asekeji being her father, other witnesses corroborated the victim’s evidence.
“Circumstantial evidence and also the medical report, the grandmother’s evidence, the grandfather’s evidence and her uncle’s evidence all point to the convicted person.
“Oluwafemi Asekeji, you have been found guilty as charged and are hereby sentenced to life imprisonment.
“The name of the convict should be registered in the Lagos State Sexual Offences Registry.”
The businessman was taken to court for pollution.
Lagos State Advocate Abimbola Abolade told the court that the convict committed the crime on June 11, 2020 at about 11pm at Ilupeju Street in Meiran area of Lagos.
The Public Prosecution Service called five witnesses, with the convicted businessman being the only witness to testify.
