The CBI registered a case against the former chairman, secretary, inspector of examinations, and other CGPSC officials, as well as others, for allegedly misusing their positions to recruit ineligible individuals related to them. Searches Conducted in Bhillai and Raipur The CBI conducted searches at multiple locations in Bhillai and Raipur, including the homes of several officials. The investigation focused on the selection process for various government posts in Chhattisgarh, including Deputy Collector, Dy. SP, and Labour Officer. Alleged Irregularities in Examination and Interviews According to the CBI statement, the son of the former chairman was allegedly selected as Deputy Collector, while his brother’s son became a Dy. SP and his sister’s daughter became a Labour Officer. The son’s wife of the former chairman was selected as Deputy Collector, and his brother’s daughter-in-law was appointed as District Excise Officer. It was also alleged that the then CGPSC Secretary selected his son for the post of Deputy Collector. Selection of Relatives and Political Associates The CBI’s investigation also uncovered allegations that sons, daughters, relatives of senior Chhattisgarh government officials, political leaders, and functionaries were selected for prominent positions, including Deputy Tax Collectors and Dy. SPs. Official Premises Searched The CBI searched the residences of the former CGPSC chairman and secretary, as well as the official premises of the investigation supervisor of the CGPSC in Raipur and Bhilai. CGPSC Scam Probe Approved The notice for the CBI probe into the alleged CGPSC scam was issued on April 25, 2024, after approval from the Chhattisgarh Home Department. The Union Home Ministry directed the CBI to investigate the FIR registered at Arjunda police station in Balod district, which named the former CGPSC chairman, secretary, examiner, and other officials and politicians.

New Delhi: The Central Bureau for Research (CBI) today registered a case at the request of Chhattisgarh government to investigate cases against then chairman, then secretary, then inspector of examinations, all Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) and others on charges of misusing their official position by recruiting their sons, daughters, relatives, acquaintances etc. who were allegedly ineligible for various posts in the State Government of Chhattisgarh during examinations and interviews conducted during the year 2020-2022.

In a statement, the investigating agency said that it has further been alleged that the son of the then Chairman was allegedly selected as Deputy Collector, his elder brother’s son as Dy. SP and his sister’s daughter as Labour Officer, his son’s wife as Deputy Collector and his brother’s daughter-in-law as District Excise Officer. It has further been alleged that the then Secretary, Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission, Chhattisgarh selected his son for the post of Deputy Collector.

It was also alleged that among others, sons, daughters, relatives of then senior officials of the Chhattisgarh government, as well as of political leaders and functionaries, were selected as deputy tax collectors and Dy SPs etc.
