The Washington State Patrol is asking the public for help locating the driver or drivers who struck a pedestrian Sunday morning on State Route 17, about three miles north of Bridgeport in Okanogan County.

According to the patrol, 59-year-old Arthur Binford of Spokane Valley was walking southbound between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. when he was struck by one or more vehicles and seriously injured.

According to Officer Jeremy Weber, little is known about the crash other than that the vehicles involved have left the scene.

“Even if they saw that person walking earlier that morning and thought it was strange, something like that would help us,” Weber said. “We don’t have much here, so we’re trying to do everything we can to find out as much as we can, why it happened and who may have hit them and get out on that road.”

Binford was flown to Confluence Health Hospital in Wenatchee with serious injuries.

It is not known whether alcohol or drugs were involved in what police are calling a felony hit and run accident.

Binford was found on the right shoulder of southbound SR 17.

Anyone with information that may assist in identifying the vehicle or vehicles causing the collision is asked to contact Sergeant David Kiehl at (509) 682-8141 or [email protected]

Weber said they are unable to discuss the severity of Binford’s injuries. “There are still very serious injuries involved,” Weber said. “It’s getting to the point where we’re not allowed to give that information out with the hospital and HIPAA (restrictions) and things like that.”
