Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt are this week trying to sign Rasmus Kristensen on a season-long loan from Leeds United.

The Whites are preparing for their second season in the Championship in August, with their sights set on automatic promotion after narrowly missing out in 23/24.

To achieve this, Daniel Farke needs a squad strong enough to compete, with the depth to play 46 games. This seems worrying after recent reports of player departures.

Eintracht Frankfurt interested in Rasmus Kristensen

Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday afternoon that Eintracht Frankfurt have put right-back Rasmus Kristensen on the shortlist for transfers this month.

The Danish defender returns to Thorp Arch after a loan spell at AS Roma in 23/24. He was included in the Danish squad for Euro 2024, but did not play a single ball there.

Kristensen moved to Leeds from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2022 for £10m on a five-year deal that will run for three years this summer.

Loan deal for Kristensen to Bundesliga considered

In addition to these initial claims, Danish Tipsbladet reports that Frankfurt is indeed looking for the right back, but on loan for the remainder of the season.

Frankfurt signed Robin Koch from Leeds last summer and agreed to take the defender via Bosman in 2024. His contract expires at the end of June.

Interestingly, Kristensen’s long-term future could lie with Denmark, at FC Midtjylland. He has spoken to director Claus Steinlein about a possible return to the club in the future, the club where Kristensen made his first-team debut in 2016:

“If and when that happens, many rumours about Rasmus Nissen Kristensen’s possible return to the Super League will also be quashed.

“In recent days, the 27-year-old right back has been photographed on Bornholm in the company of FC Midtjylland director Claus Steinlein and according to information from Tipsbladet, the parties have discussed a return to the heath, but it is a message that is still too early.”

If Kristensen wants to leave, let him go

A permanent sale would be the best solution in this case, but it seems that Frankfurt wants to loan the Dane out.

He wasn’t good enough when he played for us and it’s clear that Roma didn’t want to have anything to do with him after his loan, so he’s in a difficult position.

Kristensen would have been a solid reserve in the Championship, but he apparently still thinks he is above that.

If we can make a permanent deal we are successful, but a new loan is frustrating.
