Austin took an early lead in the 11th minute when defender Alex Ring headed home a cross from Dani Pereira. However, Charlotte leveled the score in the 33rd minute when Karol Swiderski converted a penalty after Iuri Tavares was fouled by Ring. Tavares gave Charlotte the lead in the 56th minute with a well-taken goal. But Austin rallied back late in the second half, with Jon Gallagher scoring the equalizer in the 80th minute. Diego Rubio provided the assist on Gallagher’s goal, while Ring earned his sixth assist of the season. Both teams had chances to win in the dying minutes, but neither side could find the decisive goal. Austin goalkeeper Brad Stuver made three saves, while Charlotte keeper Kristijan Kahlina made two. The draw extended Austin’s unbeaten streak to four games, while Charlotte remained winless in their last three matches. Austin now has a record of 8-10-7, while Charlotte stands at 10-8-7. Charlotte will next host the New York Red Bulls on August 24, while Austin will travel to face Nashville SC on the same day. The MLS season will then pause for a month for the Leagues Cup.

AUSTIN, Texas — Defender Jon Gallagher scored late in the second half and Austin FC pulled away to a 2-2 draw against Charlotte FC on Saturday night.

Gallagher converted assists from Alex Ring and Diego Rubio in the 80th minute to score his second goal of the season for Austin (8-10-7). Ring’s assist was his sixth of the season and Rubio’s was his first.

Ring used his head to score in the 11th minute to give Austin a 1-0 lead. Dani Pereira notched his third assist and Jáder Obrian grabbed his fourth on Ring’s first goal of the season.

Charlotte (10-8-7) equalized in the 33rd minute on a penalty goal by Karol Swiderski in his first appearance of the season. Swiderski’s PK was set up when rookie Iuri Tavares drew a foul on Ring.

Charlotte took a 2-1 lead with Tavares’ third goal of the season, unassisted, in the 56th minute.

Kristijan Kahlina made two saves in total for Charlotte.

Brad Stuver stopped three shots for Austin.

Charlotte is now 3-1-2 in their last six away games.

Charlotte defeated visiting Austin 1-0 on the final day of June 2022, the only other meeting.

The league will pause for a month to play the Leagues Cup. Charlotte will host the New York Red Bulls when play resumes on August 24. Austin will travel to play Nashville SC on August 24.
