Amanda Holden’s 18-year-old daughter Lexi was admitted to hospital after being diagnosed with E. coli. The Britain’s Got Talent judge said she had been under medical supervision for five days after suffering from severe stomach cramps and bloating, which she initially attributed to exam stress.
She described Lexi as being in “a lot of pain.” In an interview with The Sun, Amanda said she took Lexi to her GP to investigate the cause of her discomfort. After undergoing tests, it was determined that Lexi had a bacterial infection.
Government officials contacted the TV star and asked her to fill out forms to determine the source of Lexi’s infection. The results identified the infection as “VTEC E.Coli, a highly harmful strain of bacteria that is very rare in humans.”

Amanda said Lexi became ill before the E. Coli outbreak hit the headlines, adding: “Nobody could figure out where it came from and at that point she was on her third set of tests,” the Mirror reports.
Antibiotics proved ineffective. Amanda was devastated when she received a call from her doctor warning her that the teenager was ‘at risk of developing sepsis’.
The Britain’s Got Talent judge told of the ordeal: “In the morning I spoke to my friend Pippa, one of the amazing midwives who delivered our beautiful stillborn boy Theo. She was the one who helped me through all the trauma and grief. She advised us to get Lexi to hospital as quickly as possible.”
Lexi was then taken to Northwick Park Hospital in London, which is known for its expertise in tropical diseases and bacterial infections. Throughout the ordeal, Amanda and her husband Chris stayed by Lexi’s bedside.
Amanda told The Sun that the family believe Lexi contracted the disease from supermarket lettuce, and she advises people to wash their fruit and vegetables.
She urged people experiencing any of the symptoms to request a stool sample, as the symptoms may not always show up in blood samples.
