NEW DELHI, July 23: To help states develop their infrastructure, the government will provide interest-free long-term loans worth Rs 1.5 lakh crore.
Announcing this in the Union Budget 2024-25 on Tuesday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also said that private sector investments in the infrastructure sector will be facilitated through viability gap financing.
The government’s objective is to continue providing strong financial support for infrastructure over the next five years, she said, adding that road network projects will be developed at a cost of Rs 26,000 crore.
Among other things, an industrial hub will be developed at Gaya on the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor.
Capital expenditure is estimated at Rs 11,11,111 crore, 3.4 percent of GDP.
The Budget also announced the launch of the fourth phase of the PM Gram Sadak Yojana in 25 rural areas and provision of assistance to Assam for flood management and related projects.
Meanwhile, the minister said street food hubs will be set up in a number of cities. (Agencies)
