Toronto – The Fourth Preparatory Conference on International Financing For Development, which has been underway at the Skylight Hotel in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa for the past five days, concluded on Friday. 

It was working on “Addis Ababa Action Agenda” , According to an update from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia,  “with a view to identifying progress and challenges in the implementation of the Agenda 2030 of SDGs.” 

Ethiopia’s Minister For Foreign Affairs, Taye  Atske Selassie,  made an opening speech when the conference started on Tuesday – during which Ethiopia also hosted dinner.

Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General, conveyed the message virtually. He stated that platforms like the one organized in Addis Ababa do have importance  “to mobilize finance and other resources for SDGs and expressed his wish for fruitful deliberations,” as cited in the Ministry news update. 

Ahmed Shide made a concluding remark. He called the discussions “thorough and insightful,” as cited in the update from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.

It is said that the conference “provided a setting for laying out a road map for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), addressing systemic issues in financial institutions, and strengthening multilateralism through inclusivity and equity to improve coordination.”

UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, Mr. Junhua Li, addressed the closing session. He stated the “conference provided an opportunity to discuss key issues and deliberate on long-term solutions. Actionable, forward-thinking, and equitable efforts were emphasized in order to meet the Sustainable Development Goals,” as cited in the MFAE news update.
