NGO Tasks FG to Tackle Root Causes of Insecurity [Guardian Nigeria News](https://guardian.ng/news/ngo-tasks-fg-to-tackle-root-causes-of-insecurity/) A non-governmental organization, Voice of the Voiceless Initiative (VVIO), has called on the Federal Government to address the underlying causes of insecurity in the country, rather than focusing solely on military operations. Speaking during a press conference in Abuja, the Executive Director of VVIO, Miss Blessing Ezedinma, stated that while military efforts are important, they are not sufficient to resolve the root causes of insecurity, which include poverty, unemployment, and inequality. “We believe that addressing the root causes of insecurity is critical to achieving sustainable peace and stability in Nigeria,” she said. “Military operations alone will not be able to solve the problem in the long run.” Ezedinma urged the government to invest in education, job creation, and social welfare programs that will provide opportunities for unemployed youth and reduce their vulnerability to recruitment by terrorist and criminal groups. She also called for the implementation of policies that promote equity and fairness, as well as the addressing of grievances and marginalization that fuel social unrest. “By addressing these underlying factors, we can create a more just and equitable society where all citizens feel a sense of belonging and have a stake in its stability,” Ezedinma said. VVIO also commended the efforts of security forces in combating insecurity, but emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach that combines military operations with social and economic development initiatives. “We believe that the government has a crucial role to play in coordinating and implementing these measures to ensure that Nigeria becomes a safer and more prosperous nation for all its citizens,” Ezedinma concluded.A non-governmental organisation, Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), has urged the Federal Government to tackle the root causes of insecurity in the country. The group made the call in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by its Executive Director, Yunusa Zakari Ya’u. CITAD said that the current approach of the government to insecurity was not sustainable, adding that it was time for a comprehensive strategy that addressed the underlying causes of the problem. The organisation said that poverty, unemployment, and inequality were some of the root causes of insecurity, adding that these issues needed to be addressed in order to achieve lasting peace and stability. CITAD also called on the government to invest in education and job creation, as well as to promote social justice and equity. The statement reads in part: “The current approach to insecurity in Nigeria is not sustainable. We need a comprehensive strategy that addresses the underlying causes of the problem. “Poverty, unemployment, and inequality are some of the root causes of insecurity. We need to address these issues if we want to achieve lasting peace and stability. “The government should invest in education and job creation. It should also promote social justice and equity. These are the key to a more secure and prosperous Nigeria.”
