At the historic Powell Symphony Hall, guests were welcomed into an enchanting ambiance adorned with the orchestra’s iconic instruments. As the evening commenced, the SLSO, under the baton of Music Director Stéphane Denève, filled the hall with a thrilling rendition of Mozart’s “Symphony No. 41, Jupiter.” The gala featured a poignant tribute to the orchestra’s storied past. Award-winning actress Phylicia Rashad narrated a captivating history of the SLSO, highlighting its pioneering conductors, renowned soloists, and groundbreaking performances. In a testament to the orchestra’s enduring legacy, a special appearance was made by renowned pianist, and former SLSO Music Director, Leonard Slatkin. He performed a riveting solo rendition of Ravel’s “Miroirs.” The culmination of the evening was a spectacular performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, “Choral.” The SLSO was joined by the renowned St. Louis Symphony Chorus and a stellar quartet of soloists.
