ION Turns Five and Celebrates with Free Weekend Transit

Free ION Rides on 5th Anniversary Weekend
The Region of Waterloo is offering free rides on the ION LRT system during the weekend of June 22-23 to celebrate its fifth anniversary. The ION has been operating since 2019 and has become an integral part of the region’s transportation network, carrying over 10 million passengers to date. To mark this milestone, the Region is making ION rides free all weekend, encouraging residents and visitors to explore the region and enjoy the convenience of the LRT. “We’re thrilled to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the ION,” said regional chair Karen Redman. “This free ride weekend is a way to thank the community for their support and to showcase the many benefits of our LRT system.” The free rides will be available on all ION lines, including the ION Purple Line (Fairview Park to Conestoga Mall) and the ION Blue Line (Conestoga Mall to Northfield).
