Amidst the relentless storm, Pinnock was one of seven crew members aboard the Sigma 38, chartered by the University of Southampton club. The pre-race briefing had described the forecasted weather as “brisk,” but this proved to be a gross understatement. Of the 939 yachts that set sail from Cowes, only 153 (16%) managed to complete the grueling 55-mile course. Flying Formula emerged as one of the victors, securing 6th place in its class of 28 boats, while the remaining boats succumbed to the unforgiving conditions. Despite the extreme weather, the Round-the-Island Race serves as a testament to the determination and skill of the Law Society Yacht Club members.
