San Diego Sun Splashes in Record-Breaking Heat WaveSan Diego Sun Splashes in Record-Breaking Heat Wave San Diego is sweltering under an unprecedented heat wave, with temperatures soaring to record-breaking highs. The heat has sent residents flocking to beaches and pools to escape the scorching conditions. On Monday, the city recorded a high of 114 degrees Fahrenheit (45.6 degrees Celsius), breaking the previous record set in 1977. The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning, urging residents to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. Despite the warnings, San Diego’s beaches have been packed with sunbathers and swimmers seeking relief from the heat. Mission Beach, La Jolla Shores, and Coronado Beach have all experienced record crowds. “It’s so hot that you can’t even stand to be outside,” said Sarah Johnson, a local resident who was cooling off at La Jolla Shores. “But at least we have the beach to go to.” Swimming pools across the city have also proved popular, with many operating extended hours. The city’s largest aquatic facility, the Mission Bay Aquatic Center, has remained open until midnight to accommodate the demand. “We’re seeing a lot more families coming in,” said Jennifer Smith, a lifeguard at the center. “People are looking for any way they can to beat the heat.” The heat wave is expected to continue for several more days, with highs forecast to remain in the triple digits. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, and seek air-conditioned spaces during the hottest hours of the day. “This heat wave is no joke,” said Mayor Todd Gloria. “We urge all San Diegans to take the necessary precautions to protect their health and well-being.”
