Prime Minister Modi will visit Russia for the BRICS summit

As announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on October 18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Russia on October 22-23 at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin to participate in the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan. This will be the Prime Minister’s second visit to the country in 2024. According to the MEA statement, during his visit, the Prime Minister is expected to hold bilateral talks with BRICS counterparts and invited leaders in Kazan. The theme of this year’s summit is: “Strengthening multilateralism for equitable global development and security.” According to the statement, it will be an important forum for leaders to discuss key global issues. The frothy water of the Yamuna

On Friday, a layer of hazardous foam containing sewage and industrial garbage was observed in the Yamuna river in Delhi. On the same day, Delhi was covered with a layer of smog, contributing to an increase in air pollution, and the overall air quality index (AQI) was 293, putting it in the “poor” category. According to ANI, the AQI in Delhi’s Anand Vihar area has dropped to 339, which is classified as “very poor”. India Gate and surrounding areas had an AQI of 270, which is considered “poor”. CJI DY Chandrachud names Justice Sanjiv Khanna as his successor

According to top sources in the CJI’s office, Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud has appointed Justice Sanjiv Khanna as his successor. CJI Chandrachud wrote to the Center that Justice Khanna should replace him as he steps down on November 11. CJI DY Chandrachud was initially appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court on May 13, 2016. With the government’s approval, Justice Sanjiv Khanna will take over the post. as the 51st Chief Justice of India. His term expires on May 13, 2025, after which he will retire after six months of serving. Meanwhile, the second most senior judge of the Supreme Court is Justice Sanjiv Khanna. Omar Abdullah takes oath as CM of Jammu and Kashmir

On October 16, Omar Abdullah took oath as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir amid heightened security following the victory of the National Conference party in the recently held elections. Surinder Kumar Choudhary of the National Conference took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of the Union Territory. After the repeal of Art. 370 in 2019 and the division of the former state into two union territories, Omar became the first Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Jaishankar and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif meet at SCO dinner

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan on October 15 to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting the next day. According to PTI, Jaishankar and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif exchanged pleasantries during a dinner reception for SCO delegates in Islamabad on October 16 evening.
