An RNLI crew rescues a person from the water near the pier

A person stranded in the water at Bournemouth Pier has been rescued.

An RNLI lifeboat crew from Poole, Dorset, was dispatched to the west side of the pier after a member of the public called 999 on Saturday at around 9.30pm BST.

They managed to throw a rope to the person after spotting him near the quayside and pulled him aboard the lifeboat.

The RNLI says crew wrapped the person because he was “very cold” and took him to a waiting ambulance.

Dave Riley, Poole lifeboat helmsman, said: “We are grateful to the bystander who called 999 and alerted the coastguard. Each delay could have had a completely different effect.”
