PSA: Silent Hill 2 Remake fans warn of glitch in Brookhaven Hospital progression

It’s been almost two weeks since fans were welcomed back to Silent Hill, but there’s no fix yet for the glitch that’s soft-blocking some players’ progress towards the end of the Brookhaven Hospital level in Silent Hill 2 Remake.

By clicking on the innocent-looking interactive message after visiting Brookhaven’s rooftop, James may fall into a trap and be unable to proceed. Fortunately, fans who have encountered this issue are taking the time to warn others how to avoid it, so here’s a quick, spoiler-free summary to make sure it doesn’t affect you.

When you enter the third floor of Brookhaven, you will see a porthole in the doorway next to the save point with an interaction symbol, which will trigger a short cutscene. So far so good. However, when you later return to the third floor with the roof key, be sure to manually save here before going to the roof (I’ll explain why soon).

After reaching the roof, you will find yourself on the other side of the same portholes. Hurrah! But unfortunately everything can go wrong here…

Whatever you do, do it NO press the prompt to interact with the illuminator After you were on the roof. This will teleport you back to the save point, essentially preventing you from exploring the area you just unlocked. Instead, ignore the message coming from this side of the door and continue exploring.

If you accidentally press the interact button and end up on the wrong side of the door, don’t worry. Although some players have reported autosave issues here and there should were automatically saved just before this point, allowing them to reload on the correct side of the door.

If not, I’m afraid you’ll have to go back and reload your last manual save. Therefore, it is important to perform a manual save before going to the roof, in case the automatic save fails for some reason.

As of now, the Bloober Team has no information on when a solution may be available, but we will keep you updated.

Bloober Team’s remake of Silent Hill 2 has already sold a total of one million copies across physical and digital media since its global launch on October 8.

“Against the odds, Bloober Team has created a remake that both expands on Silent Hill 2 in all the right places and pays special attention to what it retains,” I wrote in Eurogamer’s review of Silent Hill 2 Remake, awarding the game an impressive five-star rating in the process.
