A dog rescued from Lake Waban after driving a geese into deep water

A Rottweiler was rescued from Lake Waban in Wellesley Saturday morning after it escaped from its owner, drove a group of geese into the water and began having trouble swimming, police said.

Police and firefighters received a report of a dog in distress at 8:18 a.m., Wellesley police said in a video posted on social media.

The dog’s owner went into the water to pull it out but had to return to shore because the water was very cold and the dog was far from land, police said.

Police said two Wellesley College boats entered the water to rescue the dog. Police also launched a drone to locate and track the dog during the rescue operation.

Video captured by a drone shows the dog paddling in the water as one of the boats approaches. The dog avoided the first boat but was caught by the person in the second boat as it tried to swim away.

The video shows the dog struggling a bit as it was dragged towards the boat. The person on the boat held the dog as it swam alongside the boat towards shore

Rescue teams were on scene when the dog made landfall, according to the video.

According to police, the dog was returned to the family and did not suffer any injuries. Its owner was treated at the scene.

“The geese managed to escape the Rottweiler without any problems,” police said.
