A woman assisting with police investigations after a small child was seen standing on an HDB shelf

SINGAPORE – A 25-year-old woman is assisting police with investigations after a small child was seen standing on the third-floor windowsill of an HDB block in Canberra Road before being rescued by a passer-by.

A video of the October 20 incident went viral on social media and shows a three-year-old boy wearing pajamas, staring blankly ahead while standing on a windowsill outside an apartment building’s window.

Some concerned onlookers on the ground floor hold an open blanket to catch the boy if he falls.

With his hands on the wall to steady himself, a man can be seen walking slowly towards the boy on the ledge. She picks up the toddler and puts him back into the apartment through the open window.

An eyewitness who posted about the incident on Facebook said that several residents tried to knock on the door of the boy’s house, but no one answered. However, the man who saved the child later realized that an adult was in the house.

In response to queries from The Straits Times, police and the Singapore Civil Defense Force said they were alerted to the incident at Block 350C Canberra Road at around 11.50am.

A 25-year-old woman is assisting with a neglect investigation, police said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

According to SCDF, the toddler was taken to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

“Members of the public provided assistance during the incident,” the officer said. “SCDF will be reaching out to them to commend them for their public stance.”
